Installation Manual

Larger Install Manual - thanks to westcoaST on Fiesta ST Forum

This high quality shift lever is built for performance without compromising comfort. It installs easily, replacing the OEM shift lever on your Fiesta ST with no modifications required to the surrounding console. The bend in the short throw shifter has been doubled  to 30 degrees, allowing the shift knob to sit closer to the driver in a much more comfortable position, all while retaining full functionality of the reverse lockout. With 3 selectable positions, the shifter can be left in the STOCK position as well as reduce throws by 10% or 25%. The shift lever can also be used in conjunction with Boomba’s fully adjustable Fiesta ST short shifter transmission adapter plate, capable of shortening throws by up to 40%.

The short shifter is designed and manufactured in Boomba's manufacturing facility, right here in the United States and all mounting hardware are included. All shift levers are precision CNC machined black oxide billet steel and black anodized billet aluminum for maximum strength and long lasting durability. A definite mod for daily drivers as well as autocross and road racing enthusiast!

    Worth every penny

Posted by James Lynch on 15th Sep 2020

I decided to give this shifter a try during the Labor Day sale. I'm so glad I did. The shifts are short making the car so much fun to drive. Install is easy, way easier than people make it seem on the forums. I have a 2019 and did not have to trim the reverse lockout or chamfer the retaining rod. They both worked perfect as is. The shifter is slightly curved back more and very much curved towards the driver. This was a little odd at first since my leg would get in the way at times, but I've since gotten used to it. Only issue is I wish boomba mentioned in the instructions to adjust the shift linkage. After installing my shifter I had a lot of difficulty getting it into first. I discovered you can adjust the shift linkage (its very easy) and all my problems went away. Google Fiesta ST shift linkage adjustment and you'll find the procedure. Its straight from Ford so you dont have to worry about messing anything up. Except for the clip, the clip can be fragile. Good luck!

    Better then everyone says

Very well made pieces as always, got this unit to match my transmission parts and they work very well so far. Close shifting and exactly what I was looking for and short throws and precise.

Ford Fiesta ST Short Throw Shifter

Posted by Sandro on 16th Feb 2020

Very nice packed piece of art. You can see the love in every part of the product. The hardest part of the installation was to find all the clips to undo the interior. I had to cut a lot of matrial from the parts around the shifter (EU spec), because I couldn't select reverse with the interiorpanels mounted (In shortest shifter position). After a few hours and dozens of bolt on and undo the parts it finally fits well. The actual shifting isn't that smooth anymore. You need to push and pull more than before, but that could also be because of the bushings I installed with the shifter. The gears are close together and the bend to the driver side of the shifter do need a bit to get used to. Because the fifth gear feels like it is in the position where the third was before. I wish the shifter would be a bit shorter. It's definitly worth it.

    Straight Forward install

The actual install went smoothly due to the install video. Only tricky part was getting the interior panels properly aligned back in place. Overall, happy with the short shift kit and wish I saved enough for it sooner!

    Totally changes the driving experience

Posted by Jarrod on 26th Jun 2017

The Fiesta ST definitely isn't the fastest car in a straight line, but what makes it such a favorite of so many is that it's basically a perfectly balanced turbo charged go-cart, handles like it's on rails, and has great midrange torque. The driving experience is the most important thing about this car and doing some modifications can totally destroy that. This shifter paired with the shifter base bushings takes that experience to the next level. I was actually surprised by how much better the shifting feel is compared to the stock unit. It sits farther back so 1st, 3rd, and 5th no longer feel like your going to punch the dash when throwing it into gear and you feel it really click into gear. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking to improve the feel of the car. I would also heed their warning in the installation video of "pry GENTLY on the latch and pull the side shifter arm out." That little plastic piece doesn't take much to snap off....

    short throw shifter

Posted by Brian Andrews on 19th May 2017

This is an amazing product. With that said the only thing I had an issue with was the side plate was very difficult to get off as the instructions where kind of difficult to understand how to get it off. Other then that I love the way the shifts are in the car now.

Short Shifter install by OLD, ten thumbs wanna-be mechanic

Posted by George Felder on 3rd May 2015

Set aside a Saturday to install the Boomba short throw shifter and shifter base bushings (made sense to do them together!) As usual for me, left side panel would not come off--phillips screw just spun, but removing the back half and undoing the electrical connections still enabled me to continue. The WORST part for me was getting that spring clip off the shift pin! I finally used my newest needle nose pliers (purchased to get the clip off the sound symposer to install the Boomba delete kit) and bent the tail ends of the pin together and THEN could push it up enough to put a small screwdrived under it! Reinstalling was easy--I used a grinder to chanfer the end of the pin, and made it pretty small! The shifter didn't work too smoothly, and I realized that my now "relocated" pin ends that resulted from me "closing them" to get the pin out added some length--just enough to contact the polymer base of the shifter. Using my new needle nose pliers, I bent those ends back outward and all worked as it should have. Last thing to stump ME was the reverse collar that needed a corner cut off! I was so ignorant that it took a while for me to discover it was INSIDE the shift boot! After that, Boomba's instructions made it all clear. Before this, I had installed the shifter solid bushings, and, as one would expect, they fell out as I attempted to install the shifter--mainly because the shifter needs to be oriented on some horizontal "bosses" that locate the rear end. Were I Boomba, I'd make all those bushings that fit together a TIGHT fit so they would stay in place while installing various components! Fortunately, some Cyanoacrylate did the trick! Now, the throws are REALLY shortened--Boomba installed the lever in the shortest throw position, and, while I do not have the firewall transmission shift plate installed, the throws are SATISFYINGLY shorter, especially reverse, which I initially thought wouldn't engage until I let the clutch out!. First and 5th are nicely shortened, while 3rd seems a hair longer--and the additional 30 deg. bend Boomba added to the lever is just GREAT! Shift ball falls readily to hand, and, as other reviewers noted, the action is very deliberate and mechanical. My initial fears were that, since we are dealing with mechanics and there is NO FREE LUNCH, shortening shift lever mechanics SHOULD result in additional EFFORT! However, at this point--with just the short shifter installed--all feels the same as stock without the "SLOP." More like a real race car! GREAT PRODUCT, Boomba!

If you can, purchase the ultimate shift package

Posted by ooklathemok on 25th Apr 2015

I wish I purchased the ultimate shift package but the short throw shifter wasn't available yet. When paired with the shifter base/transmission cable bracket bushings and the transmission adapter the throws are dramatically reduced. The shifting is a lot stiffer and more mechanical. None of the loosey goosey feel. The installation was cake. I was a little intimidated at first. I've never installed anything like this. But the video and installation manual were very precise and easily understood. Hardest part was removing the trim panel. The only thing you have to be careful with is the latch when pulling the side shifter arm out. It's a thin small piece of plastic that can easily brake. Other than that the install should take less than an hour. I really like the much shorter throws and stiffer more mechanical feel of the shifter now.
